Australia’s new Right to Disconnect law has come into effect. That means it is now illegal to contact your employees after hours unless it is reasonable to do so. 

The reasonableness test considers numerous factors, including urgency, the employee’s role, personal and family responsibilities, risks to business disruption and compensation.

Any disputes not resolved internally will go to the Fair Work Commission. Companies found in breach of the law face fines of up to $93,900 while individuals face fines of up $18,780.
